Live Streaming with Quicktime

0

This is a little test with Quicktime and live streaming using RTSP encoded with H.264 and AAC audio. I'd love your feedback, does it play for you? Just click on the above picture to start receiving the live stream. After clicking the image, it may look garbled for a few seconds - this is a real-time stream so you're receiving the film as it's playing on the server, it's not downloading the movie and being cached by your quicktime player.

If you have an internet connection with more than 1.5MBps and you have an up-to-date quicktime player then it should play perfectly. If it doesn't play for you at all you may have an old quicktime player. You can download the new player for free here: http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/ .

I would really appreciate it if you could leave me a comment with your experience:

  • Is the quality good?
  • Does it break-up?
  • How much bandwidth have you got on your internet connect?

I appreciate any feedback you can provide, it will help me fine tune my development.

Thank you very much!

Codec Test with Katiecue

Here's a little test I did to check out the configuration of my screen capture software and my codecs.

For this test I used Camtasia Studio 6 (http://www.techsmith.com/camtasia.asp) to capture the frames and a DivX 6.8 (a custom 64-bit build I did from source code) to encode the capture. I could capture around 35 frames per second using the DivX encoder from within Camtasia as opposed to the 22 frames per second I was getting with Camtasia's own TSCC encoder. The result was good!

If you want to play around with codecs to see what works best for you, I suggest you visit www.codecguide.com and download the "K-Lite Codec Pack" - it's probably one of the best codec packs around.

You can download the pack from:

Flickr Slideshow

You can embed your Flickr pictures, sets and groups into your blog! Here's the snippet of HTML code you have to embed in your page:

<div>
<iframe scrolling="no" width="600" frameborder="0" src="http://www.flickr.com/slideShow/index.gne?set_id=72157613511710842" height="600"></iframe>
</div>

You can customize it for your own selections by editing the "src" attribute of the iframe. You can show a specific user, set or group within the slideshow. The URLs in each case are as follows:

http://www.flickr.com/slideShow/index.gne?user_id=<USER_ID_HERE>
http://www.flickr.com/slideShow/index.gne?set_id=<SET_ID_HERE>
http://www.flickr.com/slideShow/index.gne?group_id=<GROUP_ID_HERE>

For example, these are the URLs for my photos, a set and one of my flickr groups:

http://www.flickr.com/slideShow/index.gne?user_id=32303225@N06
http://www.flickr.com/slideShow/index.gne?set_id=72157613511710842
http://www.flickr.com/slideShow/index.gne?group_id=892090@N25
